The Male Nude

My fascination with the male form began when I was a teenager. I stumbled upon images on Tumblr that not only helped me come to terms with my sexuality, but also began the creation of my on again, off again library of hoarded images.

This library would go on to influence a lot of my work. Over the course of the last two years I’ve photographed men in many different ways. However, in this project I set out to find ways to photograph the male form in a context that was new to me. Through the use of light and abstraction I wanted to spark a few questions within the viewer.

  • “Are muscles a prerequisite for achieving an ideal body type? Does it change when removed from the context of its host?”
  • “Does the nude male form have the strength to create conversations in the canon of art history that it’s counterpart currently occupies?”
